Obituary:
Lawrine “Swede” Thompson was born on March 21, 1925 in Debs, Minnesota to Albert and Bertha (Enger) Thompson. He grew up near Sandy Lake and attended school at Debs and Aure, Minnesota. In 1943 Swede joined the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii until 1946. Following his Honorable Discharge from the service, he worked for many years as a Lumberjack in Oregon. Swede then worked as a depot agent for the Soo Line Railroad for several years. He was united in marriage to Norma Laxdal on December 30, 1950 in Gardar, North Dakota. The couple made their home in Bemidji, MN where they raised their two sons, Jon and Joel. In 1959 they moved to Onamia, MN where he was employed with Wheeler Lumber & Bridge Co. Swede then worked for the Crosier Seminary in the maintenance department for many years until his retirement. He was a hard worker who also liked to be outdoors riding his 4 wheeler and snowmobiling. He enjoyed taking a break with a good cup of coffee and being with his family and friends. Those who shared in his life include his wife, Norma of Onamia, MN; sons, Jon (Margaret) Thompson of Onamia, MN, and Joel (Jackie) Thompson of Mora, MN; grandchildren, Erin (Rick) Schlieman, Ashley Thompson, Amy Thompson, Joshua Callander, Emily Callander, and Jason (Heather) Callander; great-grandchildren, Blake Callander, and Eva Schlieman; sisters, Mavis Winger of Bemidji, MN, Opal Ehlers of Longview, WA; sister-in-laws, Barbara Thompson of Tacoma, WA, Jan Thompson of Castle Rock, WA; and many nieces and nephews. Lawrine was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bertha (Enger) Thompson; infant brother, Dennis; brothers, Alvin, Glen, Gordy, and LeRoy.
