Name: Violet Carlson Date: May 7th, 1918 - May 2nd, 2010 Obituary: Violet Ann Carlson was born on May 7, 1918 in Woodstock, MN to the late John & Ella (Stoltenburg) Deick. At two years old Violet and her family left Woodstock on a train and relocated to Randall, MN. She graduated from Little Falls High School in 1936. Violet worked at the Buckman Hotel in Little Falls, MN for several years. She was united in marriage to Edwin Carlson on April 24, 1941 at St. James Catholic Church in Randall, MN. The couple farmed near Randall, MN. In the 1940’s Edwin and Violet moved to Parker Township where they farmed all their married life. In 2004 Violet and Edwin became residents of the Harmony House in Little Falls where she resided until her death. Violet was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville, MN, Christian Mothers, and a 4-H Mother. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her flowers and gardening, and loved to shop. Violet loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. Violet is survived by daughters, Judie Hanson of Oxnard, CA and Jan Smieja of Little Falls, MN; son, James (Jeannie) Carlson of Little Falls, MN; sister, Dorothy Valerius of New Brighton, MN; brothers, Bernard (Jay) Deick of Minneapolis, MN and Jack (Diane) Deick of Cushing, MN; six grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Violet is preceded in death by husband, Edwin; parents, John and Ella Deick; sister, Mary Newman; and brother, Robert Deick.
