Obituary:
George was born on December 19, 1921 in Iron Hub, MN to the late William and Lydia (Eschenbacher) Stockman. After graduating from Brainerd High School, George served his country during WWII in the US Navy aboard the USS Holland in the South Pacific. Upon discharge from the service, he met and married Adeline Holbrook on June 8, 1946. He earned an Associate Degree in education at Brainerd Community College while employed at the Brainerd Railroad Shops. George received his BA and MA in education from St. Cloud State University and completed his PHD studies at the University of Minnesota. George was a teacher, Elementary Principal, Director of Elementary Education (in Thief River Falls), Assistant Superintendent (in Grand Rapids, MN) and Superintendent of Royalton Schools. George was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church, Royalton American Legion and 40 & 8 Section of the American Legion. After retirement, George served on the St Gabriel’s Hospital Board and as the Mayor of Royalton. He also volunteered in the MN State Senate and other community organizations. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family. George was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many. George is survived by wife, Adeline Stockman of Apple Valley, MN formerly of Royalton; children, Judy (Tom) Dimich of Thief River Falls, MN, Kathy (Dennis) Fitzpatrick of Lakeville, MN, Chuck (Char) Stockman of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren, Nicole (Mark) Vagle, Linnea Lehrer, Kendra (Scott) Grand, Matthew (Megan) Dimich, Chris (Holly) Stockman, Ryan Stockman, Amy (Adam) Mahowald, and Abby (Drew Novak) Fitzpatrick; great grandchildren, Maya, Rhys, & Chase Vagle; John & Julia Lehrer, Cadence & Hailey Grand, and Alex Stockman; brother, Rev. William (Wilma) Stockman of Garfield, MN; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. George is preceded in death by son, David Alan Stockman; great grandson, Thomas Michael Lehrer.
