Obituary:
Ron F. Popp, Sr., 68 year old resident of Buckman, MN, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 26, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, MN with Father Gerald Dalseth and Father Kenneth Brenny concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Sunday and 9:30-10:30 A.M. on Monday at St. Michael’s Church in Buckman, MN. Christian Mothers rosary will be said at 4:30 P.M., Parish Prayers at 6:30 P.M., and Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead at 7:30 P.M. Military Honors provided by the Royalton American Legion . Arrangements are with Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Ronald Francis Popp was born May 11, 1942 in Morrill Township, MN to the late John, Sr. and Luella (Kubat) Popp.He was baptized on May 14, 1942 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake, MN. Ron graduated from Sauk Rapids High School in 1960. He entered the U.S. Army on July 23, 1960 where he was trained as a sharpshooter. He served overseas for a time and was honorably discharged in 1969.Ron was united in marriage to Jeannie Otremba on September 28, 1974 in Mayhew Lake, MN. They later divorced in 1982. Ron was remarried to Debbie Hiemenz on July 19, 1986 in Buckman, MN. Together they bought the Hiemenz farmstead which they operated as a hobby farm. Ron worked at many other jobs, including; Asphalt Roofing company in Minneapolis, and as a truck driver for Dennis Kujawa and Pueringer Foods. He then attended St. Cloud Vocational School and learned to weld. Ron then worked as a heavy equipment operator at Burski Construction and Saehr Backhoe and Gravel. He also drove cars for Brandl Motors until retiring in June of 2009. Ron enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing cards, especially cribbage, four wheeling, and riding his motorcycle around the countryside visiting family and friends. He made countless friends throughout the country. He found a way to live life to the fullest each and every day. Ron was a member of Pierz Knights of Columbus Council #3982, Royalton American Legion, and Eastern Morrison County 4-Wheeler Club. Ron is survived by his wife Debbie Popp; son, Ronnie Popp, Jr. (special friend Christine Peterson) of Pierz, MN; daughters, Anita Chisholm (special friend Chris Brutger) of Little Falls, MN, Amy (Kurt) Copa of Li ttle Falls, MN, and Amber Popp (special friend Tim King) of Buckman; grandchildren, Eric Kiley, Zac and Tia Copa, all of Little Falls, MN; brothers, Terry and John, Jr. (Patty) Popp, both of Rice, MN; sisters, Karen (Roger) Wolbeck of Rice, MN, and Mary Jo (Gary) Hagerman of DeWitt, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenny Popp, Sr., and Gary Popp; sister, Joni Klitzke; and sister-in-law Marge Popp. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ron’s four children and three grandchildren. Casketbearers will be Kurt Copa, Chris Brutger, Bob Popp, Kenny Popp, Jr., Lori Sumbs, and Kenton Krawiecki.
