Elaine J. Munson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elaine J. Munson, 86 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN after a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Greg Satterburg officiating. Burial will take place in the Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls, MN. Caring for Elaine and her family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Elaine Viola Johnson was born at home on November 1, 1935 to the late John and Mabel (Nelson) Johnson in Green Prairie Township. She attended the one-room country school and then moved to town and graduated from Little Falls High School. While a senior in high school, she began working as a legal secretary for Attorney James Phillips. Elaine married Kenneth A. Munson on June 8, 1958 at the Swedish Mission Church (Grace Covenant Church) in Little Falls. As their family grew, Elaine became a stay-at-home mother and assisted her husband with bookkeeping for their business Ken’s Furniture Store. After a few years, Elaine began working as the secretary for Grace Covenant Church. She served in that position for over 30 years retiring in 2000. Elaine was a lifelong member of Grace Covenant. In Elaine’s free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, and completing felt calendars. She was famous among her relatives for her chocolate chip cookies. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed playing board games such as Scrabble and Sequence with her children and her sisters. Elaine is survived by sons, Jeffrey of Big Lake and Steven of Little Falls; daughters, Pamela (James) Blask of Monticello and Sandra (Robert) Nielsen of Big Lake; grandchildren, Kelly Gerold, Briana Tulowetzke, Samantha Munson, and Amanda, Ashley, and Scott Nielsen; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Newman of Richfield; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Munson and Shirley Munson; and several nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; brothers, Arthur and Clifford Johnson; sisters, Virginia Krengel and Dorothy Stolhanske, and niece Jacqueline Aschittino.
